Liberty of the Seas travelers detail savings from loyalty perks and independent planning

The pair used Crown and Anchor benefits, credit-card points and self-planned port visits to limit costs on their sailing.

A traveler and her fiancée booked a Category 4V interior stateroom aboard Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas for $1,497.84, including gratuities. According to the traveler, the reservation was made eight months before departure through an MEI travel agent.

The traveler said round-trip flights for two cost $1,199.76 plus 85,000 credit-card points, compared with a stated cash price of $2,600. Ground transportation also included two train tickets from central London to Southampton for $65.43. Their return trip to London Heathrow cost $100.81, including a taxi to the Southampton station; the traveler said Royal Caribbean transfers were approximately $100 per person.

On board, both travelers used Diamond-level Crown and Anchor Society benefits. Each received four complimentary drinks daily, giving the pair eight drinks per day. They also shared one Wi-Fi package for $86.97 after applying two complimentary loyalty days. The traveler noted that Crown and Anchor members can begin receiving selected internet and beverage discounts after one cruise.

The pair avoided paid onboard add-ons, instead using Liberty of the Seas’ included entertainment, activities and dining. They also independently organized their time in Hamburg and Zeebrugge rather than purchasing Royal Caribbean-sponsored excursions.
