Legend of the Seas Opens Mediterranean Season as Royal Caribbean Advances Discovery Class
The ship is sailing between Barcelona and Civitavecchia before a planned winter move to Fort Lauderdale, while the cruise line targets 2029 for its next class debut.
Legend of the Seas has begun its summer season with Western Mediterranean voyages between Barcelona and Rome’s Civitavecchia port. The itinerary features destinations including Marseille, Málaga and La Spezia.
For winter, the ship is scheduled to reposition to Fort Lauderdale and operate Bahamas cruises that include a visit to Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Legend of the Seas offers more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges. Royal Caribbean also plans to expand the ship’s entertainment program with a reimagined extension of America’s Got Talent featuring magicians, musicians and aerialists associated with the franchise.
Separately, Royal Caribbean is moving forward with its Discovery class, which will be constructed by French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique. Royal Caribbean International CEO Michael Bayley said the new class is intended to serve Asia, Alaska and Europe, with ships designed to transit the Panama Canal. According to Bayley, the first Discovery-class vessel is due to arrive in 2029.
