Kerala Announces Cruise Terminal Plans for Kozhikode and Kochi
Chief Minister V D Satheesan linked the proposed terminals to wider efforts involving tourism, coastal transport and freight movement.
Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan announced plans to establish cruise terminals in Kozhikode and Kochi. He presented the projects as part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen tourism and expand transportation along Kerala’s coast.
Satheesan also said the government plans to move 50% of freight traffic to coastal waterways. According to the chief minister, the proposed shift is intended to reduce congestion on the state’s roads while increasing the role of water-based transport.
The chief minister later said the government had already initiated steps to develop Kozhikode as a port city. He made the statement while inaugurating the Future Calicut 360 development conclave, an event organized under the leadership of Kozhikode South MLA Faisal Babu.
