Judge dismisses several claims in Bar Harbor cruise ordinance case
Golden Anchor’s lawsuit challenges the legality of local rules governing cruise ship disembarkation.

Business and Consumer Court Judge Michael Duddy has granted Bar Harbor’s request to dismiss several counts in a lawsuit challenging the town’s cruise ship disembarkation ordinance. The nine-page order approving the town’s dismissal motion was filed Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Golden Anchor, the owner of the Harborside Hotel pier at 55 West St., filed the case against Bar Harbor in September 2024. The company alleged that the ordinance was discriminatory, arbitrary and capricious.
The lawsuit presented nine counts seeking declaratory judgment and injunctive relief over the ordinance’s legality. Duddy’s order sided with the town on its request to dismiss a number of those counts. The case is separate from the ordinance challenge brought by the Association to Preserve and Protect Local Livelihoods.
