Irish Coast Guard evacuates unwell person from Queen Mary 2
Rescue 117 transferred the casualty to Waterford Airport during the ship’s Southampton-to-New York sailing.

A person who became unwell aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 was evacuated by the Irish Coast Guard on Sunday evening while the cruise ship was sailing from Southampton to New York.
The Marine Rescue Sub Centre in Valentia received a request for assistance and initiated a response. The Irish Coast Guard sent Rescue 117, its Waterford-based helicopter, to assist the vessel.
The Department of Transport said the Rescue 117 crew winched the casualty from Queen Mary 2 before flying the person to Waterford Airport. The casualty was then placed in the care of Ireland’s Health Service Executive. No further information about the person’s condition was provided in the verified details.
