Iona Calls at Haugesund on Seven-Day Norwegian Fjords Voyage
The P&O sailing from Southampton included four port calls, glacier scenery and a small-boat trip through Lysefjord.
Iona docked in Haugesund for the first of four port stops on a seven-day P&O voyage around the Norwegian fjords. The ship sailed from Southampton carrying more than 5,000 guests.
At 344 metres long, Iona features 30 bars and restaurants, duty-free shops, four swimming pools and several entertainment venues, including a four-screen cinema. During the Haugesund visit, some cruise passengers took a dip in the strait, where the water temperature was 10 degrees Celsius.
Another outing took passengers away from the ship to Briksdal Glacier, where clear water and views of the surrounding landscape formed part of the visit. The voyage’s changing morning scenery included valleys shaped by melting glaciers.
The final excursion was a small-boat tour of Lysefjord. The route passed salmon farms and continued through valleys before stopping at a cafe beside the fjord, where Norwegian waffles were served with sour cream and jam.
