Icon of the Seas drops Costa Maya call after Miami delay

Royal Caribbean revised the ship’s Sept. 26 itinerary, replacing the Mexican port visit with a day at sea.

Royal Caribbean canceled Icon of the Seas’ scheduled call at Costa Maya after an apparent maintenance issue kept the ship in Miami overnight.

A Royal Caribbean passenger notice said the vessel, which had been due to leave Miami on Saturday, would instead remain in port until Sunday. A copy of the notice shared on Reddit listed the revised departure date as Sept. 27 rather than Sept. 26.

Under the updated itinerary, a sea day was scheduled in place of the Costa Maya visit. The Reddit user who posted the notice said affected passengers were offered at least $300 in onboard credit, with compensation varying by cabin category.

Some passengers expressed disappointment over the cancellation because they had planned excursions to Chacchoben, a Maya archaeological site near Costa Maya.
