Icon of the Seas drops Costa Maya call after maintenance issue
Royal Caribbean’s ship remained in Miami overnight and departed a day later than scheduled, according to a passenger notice.

Royal Caribbean canceled Icon of the Seas’ scheduled visit to Costa Maya, Mexico, after a maintenance issue reportedly kept the ship in Miami overnight.
According to a Royal Caribbean notice sent to passengers, the vessel was due to leave Miami on Saturday, Sept. 26, but instead remained in port until Sunday, Sept. 27. A publicly shared copy of the notice said the revised itinerary would replace the Costa Maya call with a day at sea.
The passenger who posted the notice said guests were offered at least $300 in onboard credit, with compensation varying by cabin type. Royal Caribbean’s notice, as described in the available reports, did not provide further details about the maintenance issue.
Some passengers said they were disappointed by the change because they had planned excursions to Chacchoben, a Maya archaeological site near Costa Maya.
