Icon of the Seas Central Park balcony cabin balances cost and privacy

A traveler reported paying about $3,800 for a weeklong sailing while opting against an ocean-view balcony quoted above $6,000.

A traveler and her fiancée booked an interior-facing balcony cabin overlooking Central Park for a seven-night Icon of the Seas cruise. The fare was approximately $3,800, or $1,900 per person, after booking well in advance, according to her account.

The traveler said their agent had quoted more than $6,000 for an ocean-view balcony, which the couple decided was too expensive. Icon of the Seas has 1,815 balcony staterooms in eight categories, including four cabin types described in the report as new to Royal Caribbean.

Inside the Central Park-facing cabin, the traveler found more than 10 outlets, with American and European sockets as well as USB and USB-C connections. She also reported enough storage for both occupants to unpack comfortably during the week.

The inward-facing location created privacy considerations because passengers in other staterooms could see into the room. The couple therefore closed the blinds when resting during the afternoon and remained mindful about leaving the curtains open. The traveler also reported that streaming content from a mobile device to the cabin television was unavailable.
