Holland America plans new atrium bar and entertainment updates for Oosterdam
The ship will be among the first transformed under the Holland America Evolution fleet program, alongside Zuiderdam.

Holland America Line plans to add a two-level atrium bar and broaden live entertainment aboard Oosterdam through Holland America Evolution, which the company describes as the largest fleet update in its 153-year history.
Developed with London-based design firm SMC, Bar 1873 will take over the ship’s central atrium on Deck 2. The venue will offer cocktails and live music alongside displays exploring Holland America’s maritime history. Its May She Be Blessed theme draws on Queen Juliana of the Netherlands’ christening of Rotterdam V in 1958.
Oosterdam’s Crow’s Nest will also be refreshed while retaining its panoramic sea views. The space is planned to host activities and enrichment programs during the day, followed by additional live music and dancing in the evening.
The wider Evolution initiative will update public areas, accommodations and onboard offerings across six Vista Class and Signature Class vessels. It will also include the recently acquired Arcadia. Oosterdam and Zuiderdam are scheduled to be the first ships transformed, and Holland America has opened bookings for their cruises following the work. The company’s announcement did not provide a debut date for Bar 1873.
