Guest ratings help shape Holland America’s Australia deployment
An executive says Australian ports average 9.2 out of 10 in passenger surveys, while demand also guides future capacity decisions.

Holland America Line uses passenger feedback on port experiences as a factor when planning future ship deployments, according to Carole Biencourt, the cruise line’s vice president of onboard revenue.
Speaking at the Australian Cruise Association annual conference in Brisbane, Biencourt said passengers rate each port experience in a survey completed at the end of their voyage. Australian ports receive an average score of 9.2 out of 10, she said, making those ratings an important consideration in deployment decisions.
Biencourt also said Holland America has developed multi-day excursions that take passengers away from their ship to inland destinations, including Uluru.
Demand remains another driver of deployment, according to Biencourt. She said the company markets Australia to build interest in its cruise offerings in the region, with stronger demand leading to more cruise tonnage being assigned to Australia.
