Guest dies after fall aboard Norwegian Getaway
Miami-Dade authorities are investigating the incident, which occurred during the final night of a four-day cruise from Miami.
Norwegian Cruise Line said a guest went over a balcony and fell onto a lower deck aboard Norwegian Getaway on the evening of August 23. According to the company, crew members immediately provided life-sustaining measures, but the guest died.
Detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office’s Homicide Bureau are handling the case as an unclassified death investigation. The Miami-Dade medical examiner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death.
The incident occurred on the last night of a four-day round-trip voyage from Miami. Norwegian Getaway departed Florida on August 21 and visited Nassau in the Bahamas and Norwegian Cruise Line’s Great Stirrup Cay. The ship returned to port on August 24.
Norwegian Cruise Line expressed condolences to the guest’s family. No further details about the guest or the circumstances of the fall were provided.
