Fred. Olsen becomes first cruise line to sign Seafarer Pledge
The commitment covers crew career development, maritime skills recognition and transitions between shipboard and shoreside roles.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has become the first cruise operator to sign the Merchant Navy Welfare Board’s Seafarer Pledge, committing to practical measures intended to support crew wellbeing and maritime careers.
Under the pledge, the cruise line will work to promote career progression and help seafarers move between sea- and shore-based positions. Its commitments also include recognizing maritime skills and experience and encouraging future generations to consider careers at sea.
The company has also introduced a dedicated Crew Welfare Officer position to coordinate wellbeing initiatives throughout its fleet.
The Seafarer Pledge is jointly funded by the Merchant Navy Welfare Board, Trinity House and the Merchant Navy Association. The organizations support the initiative as part of a shared effort to strengthen assistance for seafarers and increase awareness of their contribution to society.
