Fire destroys dock at Whittier cruise terminal
No injuries were reported, while Norwegian Jade left the Alaska facility without damage.

A fire destroyed a cruise ship dock at the Chugach Glacier Gateway Cruise Terminal in Whittier, Alaska. The state fire marshal’s office described the facility as a total loss, and the cause remains under investigation.
The fire was reported at about eleven in the morning and was not fully extinguished until approximately half past noon the following day. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The blaze damaged a high-speed catamaran operated by Phillips Cruises & Tours, though no passengers were aboard at the time. Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Jade was alongside the facility but departed without sustaining damage.
Firefighting efforts were complicated by the absence of a working hydrant near the dock. The Anchorage Fire Department said its crews and Girdwood Fire and Rescue used an engine and several tenders to transport approximately one hundred twelve thousand gallons of water during the response.
