Family awaits toxicology report after MSC Euribia crew member’s death

MSC Cruises said assistant waiter Laeeq Adams suffered a cardiac arrest aboard the ship and could not be revived.

The family of MSC Euribia assistant waiter Laeeq Adams is awaiting a toxicology report following his death aboard the vessel on October 18, 2025. His mother, Zenith Adams, said he had worked on the ship for seven months before the family received news of his death that day.

According to Zenith Adams, the family first learned what had happened through people aboard the vessel and posts on social media. MSC Cruises SA said Adams’ condition deteriorated suddenly during the early hours of October 18 before he went into cardiac arrest. The company said the onboard medical team was unable to revive him and that his father was notified that morning.

Zenith Adams said a post-mortem examination recorded an acute lung injury, while the family remained without the toxicology findings. She also alleged that the ship’s doctor had not prepared her son’s body for the examination, resulting in an additional two-day delay.

MSC Cruises said it had remained in contact with the family and offered help with burial and funeral costs, as well as expenses related to customary 40-day and 100-day memorial ceremonies. The company also said it assisted with repatriating Adams to South Africa. MSC acknowledged that some personal belongings, particularly purchases made onboard, could not be found and said it compensated the family for their value and provided a further ex gratia payment.
