Explora Journeys plans expansion into river cruising
The cruise line has selected Den Breejen Shipyard to develop its first dedicated river fleet, with bookings expected to begin in 2027.

Explora Journeys has announced plans to enter the river cruise market, extending its operations beyond ocean voyages. The company launched its first ocean vessel, Explora I, in 2023.
The line said it has signed an agreement with Dutch shipbuilder Den Breejen Shipyard to design and construct its initial fleet of purpose-built river ships. The agreement marks the first disclosed step in the company’s river cruising plans.
Bookings for the new river cruises are scheduled to open in 2027. Explora Journeys has not yet revealed its first itineraries, accommodation layouts or dates for the ships’ maiden sailings.
According to the company, more information will be released later about the vessels’ design, onboard offerings, delivery timetable and inaugural routes. Explora Journeys has not provided further scheduling details for the planned rollout.
