Disney Cruise Line Sets Limits for Personal Hair Dryers

Guests may pack hair dryers and certain grooming appliances if the devices meet ship-specific electrical requirements.

Disney Cruise Line permits passengers to bring personal hair dryers aboard its ships, but the appliances must comply with specified voltage and wattage limits.

On all Disney ships except the Disney Adventure, an eligible hair dryer must operate at either 110 volts with a maximum output of 1,500 watts or 220 volts with a maximum output of 2,000 watts. The Disney Adventure has separate requirements: Hair dryers must be rated for 230 volts and no more than 2,000 watts.

Appliances that do not meet Disney Cruise Line’s standards may be removed during baggage screening. Disney also advises that finding prohibited items in checked luggage can postpone delivery of the affected bags to a passenger’s stateroom until later on embarkation evening.

Other small personal electrical appliances may also be allowed when compatible with a ship’s electrical requirements. Disney Cruise Line lists certain curling irons, flat irons and electric shavers among the permitted items, subject to those conditions. Passengers planning to pack grooming devices should verify their appliance ratings against the requirements for their specific ship.
