Cruisers Turn to Voyages for a Digital Break
Some passengers are limiting internet and social media use at sea, avoiding daily Wi-Fi costs while focusing on offline activities.

A growing number of cruise passengers are using their time at sea to reduce internet and social media use, according to a report on digital-detox habits aboard ships.
The report estimates that cruise Wi-Fi packages generally cost about $20 to $30 per day. Rather than purchasing a package, some travelers remain offline aboard the ship and connect only in port through mobile data or Wi-Fi available at local venues.
Reddit user PeacefulCW said disconnecting is an enjoyable part of cruising. They described spending time talking with travel companions, reading or listening to books downloaded before departure, relaxing while looking at the ocean and participating in onboard activities. The user said these options prevented boredom without regular internet access.
Another Reddit user, TherrineMoonGlow, said they and their husband spent hours watching the ocean during a recent voyage. According to the user, they spotted whales, dolphins and hammerhead sharks, watched the waves and brought travel games for entertainment.
