Cruise ship buffets span live cooking, global menus and mixed reviews
Dining concepts from Oceania, Viking, Celebrity, Princess, Azamara, Seabourn, MSC and Norwegian offer varied approaches to casual meals at sea.

Oceania Cruises’ Terrace Cafe emphasizes cooking stations where chefs prepare food in view of passengers, according to the report. Its selection includes seafood, carved meats, international dishes and homemade ice cream. Cruise Critic, meanwhile, commended Viking’s World Cafe for its atmosphere and ingredient quality, especially aboard Viking Vesta.
Celebrity Cruises’ Oceanview Cafe divides its choices among stations for stir-fries, pasta, pizza, salads, carved meats and desserts. Princess Cruises operates World Fresh Marketplace on ships including Discovery Princess, with Asian, Mexican, Indian and Italian-inspired dishes. Newer vessels such as Sun Princess instead feature a concept called The Eatery.
Azamara’s Windows Cafe supplements salads, carved meats and desserts with themed dinners drawing on Italian, Greek, Indian and Japanese cuisines. At Seabourn’s The Colonnade, breakfast and lunch may include buffet-style seafood, shrimp, carved meats and freshly prepared items, while dinner shifts to a more conventional restaurant format.
Assessments were less consistent for some ships. Cruise Critic’s editorial review praised MSC Meraviglia’s Marketplace Buffet, which serves pizza, pasta, international fare and freshly prepared selections. However, the report attributed complaints about queues, greasy breakfast meats and disappointing food to a May 2026 passenger, who viewed the carved meats more positively. Feedback cited from Norwegian Epic passengers also criticized Garden Cafe’s salad ingredients, food preparation and range compared with the ship’s specialty restaurants.
