Cruise Screening Reports Detail Commonly Confiscated Items
Clothes steamers, certain extension cords and pocket tools have reportedly been removed, while Carnival applies separate rules to wine, bottled drinks and canned beverages.

Clothes steamers are considered a fire hazard aboard cruise ships and are consistently flagged for confiscation, according to the report. Passengers have also reported losing extension cords during screening even when they believed the cords followed stated guidelines by lacking a surge protector and having fewer than four plugs.
Pocket knives and multi-tools are among the items most commonly confiscated, the report says. Passengers may forget that these tools are attached to a keychain or packed in a toiletry bag. One passenger reported seeing a full-size machete on a confiscation table among pocket knives and hair dryers.
According to the report, Carnival permits each adult to carry on one bottle of wine or champagne of the allowed size during boarding. The cruise line prohibits beverages in plastic or glass bottles regardless of what they contain. Carnival passengers may instead bring up to 12 canned beverages per person.
