Cruise passengers recount items confiscated during boarding
Online accounts linked to four major cruise lines describe steamers, electrical cords, speakers and other belongings being removed during security checks.
Cruise passengers have shared confiscation experiences in online communities associated with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Princess. According to those accounts, steamers are consistently flagged because they are treated as fire hazards aboard ships. Several passengers said searched luggage arrived at their cabins with notices that steamers had been removed and could be collected after the cruise.
Other reported confiscations included speakers and electrical cords. One passenger described seeing numerous speakers taken during boarding security. Some travelers also said cords were removed even though they believed the products followed stated guidelines by lacking surge protection and having fewer than four plugs.
Passengers who visited post-cruise retrieval tables reported seeing hair dryers among the collected belongings. Pocket knives and multi-tools were also described as common confiscations, including items travelers had apparently forgotten on keychains or inside toiletry bags. In one unusual account, a passenger said a full-size machete was displayed among confiscated pocket knives and hair dryers.
