Cruise passengers recount commonly confiscated items at boarding
Travelers have described security removing steamers, speakers, cords and other belongings across several major cruise lines.
Members of the r/CarnivalCruiseFans community have shared accounts of belongings being confiscated during cruise security checks. Similar discussions have involved passengers sailing with Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Princess.
According to the report, clothes steamers are treated as fire hazards aboard cruise ships and are routinely flagged. Several passengers said their luggage was searched and a steamer removed, with a notice explaining that it could be collected when they disembarked.
Other accounts describe portable speakers being stopped during boarding. One passenger recalled seeing security remove a large number of speakers. Travelers have also reported losing extension cords even when they believed the products met stated requirements, including having no surge protector and fewer than four outlets.
Passengers visiting collection tables at the end of sailings have repeatedly reported seeing hair dryers among held belongings. Pocket knives and multi-tools were also described as frequent confiscations, sometimes because travelers had forgotten they were attached to keychains or packed inside toiletry bags.
In one unusual account, a passenger said a full-size machete appeared on a confiscation table alongside pocket knives and hair dryers.
