Cruise lines expand Caribbean ships, private destinations and premium enclaves

New vessels and resort-style destinations are emphasizing water attractions, entertainment and differentiated onboard spaces.

Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, including Icon of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas, features water parks, family neighborhoods and entertainment districts spanning multiple decks. New ships from Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises similarly emphasize large water features, outdoor activity areas and technology-driven shows for short Caribbean itineraries.

Industry reports say mega-ships are being positioned at Florida and Gulf homeports for frequent Caribbean cruises lasting three to seven nights. Private destinations are also part of that strategy. According to Royal Caribbean, Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas combines a water park, beaches and family areas. Its adults-only Hideaway Beach opened in January 2024.

Royal Caribbean Group’s disclosed destination plans include a Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island in Nassau and a future Perfect Day-branded site on Mexico’s Caribbean coast. Cruise lines are also developing premium areas aboard larger ships, including Norwegian’s The Haven, MSC Yacht Club, Celebrity’s The Retreat and Royal Caribbean’s suite neighborhoods.

At the smaller end of the market, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection has introduced winter Caribbean itineraries aboard all-suite yachts. Company materials emphasize personalized service, spacious terraces and shore experiences focused on destinations.
