Cruise lecturer recommends packing light for extended world voyage
Dr Dean Allen said onboard laundry and shopping opportunities at destinations can help passengers reduce their luggage.

Dr Dean Allen has advised cruise travelers to pack as lightly as possible, saying extra clothing may be unnecessary because the ship provides launderette facilities. He added that passengers can generally purchase items they need at destinations along the way.
Allen was preparing to join a voyage described in the report as lasting more than 660 days and calling at 230 ports. The report said he was aboard a world cruise operated by Explorations by Norwegian, which had chartered Oceania Cruises’ Regatta with Ignite Travel Group.
The itinerary was heading toward Australia through destinations including Finland, Spain, South Africa, Madagascar, Thailand and Malaysia. Passengers could remain aboard for the full voyage or book shorter segments.
Drawing on four years of delivering talks aboard ships, Allen also encouraged travelers not to dismiss less prominent calls. He said ports that passengers may not expect to stand out can ultimately provide memorable experiences.
