Cruise Etiquette Guidance Highlights Pool-Chair and Smoking Policies
A report outlining nine unwritten rules for cruise passengers points to formal conduct requirements that travelers accept during booking and check-in.

Cruise passengers are being reminded to consider both informal etiquette and cruise-line rules before embarkation. The report presents nine unwritten practices intended to help travelers avoid regret or embarrassment while sailing.
Beyond those informal expectations, the report says cruise lines maintain passenger codes of conduct that guests agree to as part of the booking and check-in process. Such policies can govern behavior in shared spaces and set out possible responses to violations.
Royal Caribbean’s rules include a limit on how long belongings may be left unattended on pool chairs, according to the report. Items cannot be used to hold an unoccupied chair for more than 30 minutes.
The cruise line also allows smoking only in designated areas aboard its ships, the report says. Passengers who do not follow that restriction may face further action under Royal Caribbean’s Guest Conduct Policy.
