Cruise cabin price gaps may make an outside view worth considering
Writer Elizabeth Wright says her experience across more than 110 nights in windowless cabins shows that room value depends on the ship, itinerary and fare difference.

Elizabeth Wright says she has spent more than 110 nights in windowless cruise accommodations on ships including Vision, Harmony and Liberty of the Seas. Her first inside-stateroom stay came during a seven-night Symphony of the Seas sailing. Although she initially regretted the choice, Wright says the experience proved better than expected.
She also reports that paying more for a balcony does not always deliver sufficient value. Wright says a balcony on a three-night Utopia of the Seas voyage cost more than $550 per night, which she considered too expensive given the activities packed into the short cruise.
Cabin dimensions can provide another point of comparison. According to the report, a standard interior room on Wonder of the Seas is about 172 square feet. An ocean-view balcony cabin has approximately 182 square feet indoors, along with a 50-square-foot private verandah.
Current examples cited by the report show relatively small gaps between some inside and outside-view fares. For a three-night Utopia of the Seas cruise in October 2027, listed starting prices are $615 per person for a standard interior and $655 for an outside-view room. On Legend of the Seas’ seven-night Western Mediterranean departure on July 1, 2027, starting prices are listed at $2,727 per person inside and $2,802 outside, a $75 difference.
