Crane deployed after cruise ship lodges beneath Narayani bridge
Traffic across the bridge was halted, disrupting movement on the East-West Highway between Bharatpur and Gaindakot.
A cruise ship swept away by flooding on the Narayani River was being removed by crane on Monday, according to the report.
The ship was washed away on Sunday before becoming lodged beneath the Narayani bridge on the Gaindakot side. The report said the vessel, which it described as house-sized, had previously been secured about 100 meters upstream from the bridge.
Traffic across the bridge was completely suspended after the ship became stuck. The closure also affected travel on the East-West Highway because the bridge connects Bharatpur in Chitwan with Gaindakot in Nawalpur.
The report said the lodged vessel created an additional danger to the bridge. Removal work was underway Monday using a crane.
