Costa Serena to House Asian Games Athletes and Officials in Nagoya
Japanese officials selected a cruise ship, hotels and temporary wooden containers for lodging rather than constructing a dedicated athletes village.

The Italian cruise ship Costa Serena is docked at a port in Nagoya as part of the accommodation arrangements for the Asian Games. The vessel is expected to provide lodging for as many as 5,000 athletes and officials.
The ship will not house the same group throughout the Games. Athletes are set to rotate on and off Costa Serena as their events finish and other competitions begin, allowing successive groups to use the onboard accommodation.
Cruise-ship lodging is one element of the broader plan chosen by Japanese officials. Hotel rooms and temporary wooden containers will also accommodate participants after officials decided not to develop a purpose-built athletes village for the event.
