Costa Serena serves as floating athletes village in Nagoya
A reported 4,000 athletes and team officials are staying aboard the docked cruise ship for 22 days.

Costa Serena is being used as a floating athletes village while docked in Nagoya, according to the report. About 4,000 athletes and team officials are living aboard the cruise ship for 22 days rather than staying in conventional apartment towers.
The arrangement brings competitors together throughout the ship, with athletes regularly encountering one another on its decks and in its corridors. The report describes the vessel as a shared living environment for participants from different regions during their stay in Nagoya.
Athletes from different regions have also shared tables aboard Costa Serena. When language differences made conversation difficult, participants communicated through gestures or entered text into translation applications on their phones, the report said. Those exchanges sometimes led to moments of shared laughter among the athletes.
