Costa Serena serves as athletes’ residence in Nagoya

The cruise ship is accommodating about 4,000 athletes and team officials from 43 nationalities.

Costa Serena has arrived at the Port of Nagoya and is scheduled to remain at Kinjo Pier until October 6. During the event, the ship is expected to house approximately 4,000 athletes and team officials representing 43 nationalities, including delegations competing in 18 disciplines such as judo and gymnastics.

Costa Crociere collaborated with JTB Nagoya and the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games Organizing Committee to adapt the vessel for use as an athletes’ residence. Dining schedules were adjusted around training and competition times, while menus were developed to address nutritional requirements across multiple sports and a range of dietary needs.

The ship’s fitness facilities were enlarged and re-equipped, with additional dedicated training areas established onboard. A staffed medical center is operating in coordination with the Games’ medical services to provide care on the vessel. Pools, thermal facilities and quiet areas were repurposed for recovery, while cabins were configured to support athletes’ rest between sessions.
