Costa Serena serves as Asian Games accommodation in Nagoya

The cruise ship remained docked at Nagoya Port to house athletes and officials during the 2026 competition.

Costa Serena arrived at Nagoya Port on Sept. 15, 2026, to provide accommodation for athletes and officials participating in the Asian Games. The Games began Sept. 19 and were scheduled to continue through Oct. 4, bringing together more than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions across 43 sports.

Instead of operating tourist voyages between destinations, the ship remained in port for the event. Costa Serena has 1,500 cabins and a stated capacity of up to 5,000 people, although that operating limit did not indicate that 5,000 guests were aboard at the same time. Plans called for about 4,000 athletes and coaches to stay on the vessel.

Other competitors and officials were assigned to hotel rooms and temporary wooden accommodation units. Organizers opted not to construct a dedicated athletes’ village, citing concern that a costly, large-scale complex might have limited usefulness after the Games.

Singapore water polo player Juni Ong described the shipboard accommodation as compact but comfortable.
