Costa Serena houses about 4,000 athletes and officials in Nagoya
The cruise ship is part of a wider accommodation plan using hotels and temporary facilities instead of a dedicated Athletes’ Village.

Costa Serena arrived in Nagoya on September 15 and is accommodating around 4,000 athletes and officials. Organisers chose not to construct a dedicated Athletes’ Village, instead arranging lodging across hotels, the Italian cruise ship and temporary wooden cabins.
A report alleged that Thailand’s national sepak takraw team had to sleep on the floor of a cruise ship lobby after arriving in Nagoya because its accommodation records were reportedly missing. No further details about the circumstances were provided.
Naoki Alex Miyaji, head of Japan’s cricket association, said many sports were being housed aboard the cruise ship or in container-style facilities. Cricket teams, however, were offered hotel rooms following discussions between the Asian Games organising committee and the Asian Cricket Council.
