Construction begins on Royal Caribbean’s fifth Icon-class ship
A keel-laying ceremony at Meyer Turku marked a major milestone for the unnamed vessel, which is scheduled for delivery in 2028.

Meyer Turku has marked the start of construction on Royal Caribbean’s fifth Icon-class ship with a keel-laying ceremony. The cruise ship is scheduled to be delivered in 2028, although its name and onboard features have not yet been disclosed.
During the ceremony, executives from Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku placed newly minted coins beneath the vessel’s steel keel block before it was moved into position. The custom is a longstanding shipbuilding tradition associated with good luck.
The block was placed in the shipyard dock recently vacated by Hero of the Seas, the fourth ship in the Icon class. Hero of the Seas had been floated out of the dock the previous week.
Royal Caribbean’s current plans call for the fifth Icon-class vessel to be followed by a sixth ship in 2029 and a seventh in 2030. Further details about the fifth ship are expected to be announced later.
