Carnival warns of Norfolk traffic delays for Sunshine sailing
A wine festival and scheduled bridge-tunnel work could slow guests traveling to the cruise terminal on October 17, 2026.

Carnival Cruise Line has advised passengers embarking on Carnival Sunshine in Norfolk on Saturday, October 17, 2026, to prepare for traffic disruptions near the cruise terminal.
According to the company’s guest notification, the Norfolk Wine Festival is expected to bring street closures and heavier traffic in some areas. The eastbound Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, carrying Interstate 64 traffic toward Norfolk, is also scheduled to close for roadwork.
The City of Norfolk said the roadwork is due to begin at 9 p.m. Friday and continue until 5 a.m. Monday. Carnival recommended allowing additional travel time and checking local traffic conditions on embarkation day. The cruise line also reminded passengers that they must be aboard by the final boarding time printed on their boarding passes.
Carnival Sunshine is scheduled to leave Norfolk at 4 p.m. on October 17 for an eight-night Canada cruise, with planned calls at Halifax, Charlottetown and Sydney before returning to Norfolk on October 25. The ship’s departure time and overall itinerary remain unchanged.
