Carnival Valor Resumes Operations After Brief Listing on Mississippi River
Carnival Cruise Line said the ship sustained no damage and provided medical assistance to several guests following the August 17 incident.
Carnival Valor briefly listed while traveling on the Mississippi River on August 17, according to Carnival Cruise Line, which said it was reviewing the circumstances. The company noted that similar vessel movements can occur during normal navigation.
Guests aboard the ship said it made a sudden hard-right turn to avoid a cargo vessel that had lost power and was stuck in the river. A passenger-recorded video showed water spilling from a swimming pool across part of an open deck as some guests reacted.
Carnival said the crew responded immediately after the pool water washed onto the deck. Medical assistance was offered and provided to a few guests who requested it. No serious injuries were reported.
The ship was quickly brought upright and resumed normal operations, with no damage reported. Cruise tracking data cited in the report showed Carnival Valor arrived in New Orleans on schedule at 8 a.m. CDT and departed at 3:30 p.m., also on time, for its next sailing.
