Carnival rolls out shoe-recycling program across U.S. fleet
The cruise line is working with Miami-based Sneaker Impact to reuse or recycle donated and unclaimed footwear.
Carnival Cruise Line has launched a shoe-recycling initiative across its U.S. fleet in partnership with Sneaker Impact. The program accepts unwanted footwear donated by guests and crew, as well as unclaimed shoes left aboard ships.
Collected shoes are sent to Sneaker Impact’s facility in Miami, where each pair is assessed. Footwear in suitable condition is prepared for reuse, while other shoes are broken down for recycling.
Carnival said five ships participating in the program diverted more than 500 pairs of shoes from landfill during July. The company estimates that expanding the initiative fleetwide could give a second life to about 50,000 pairs.
Guests aboard participating ships can contribute by donating unwanted shoes instead of discarding them. Crew members can use the same collection system, and unclaimed footwear remaining after sailings may also be directed into the program.
