Carnival Reminds Guests of Dress Guidance for Lifou Visits
Passengers aboard Carnival Splendor were advised to wear modest clothing and avoid swimwear in public areas during calls in New Caledonia.

A letter provided to guests aboard Carnival Splendor advised passengers to cover up while visiting Lifou, New Caledonia. The guidance reportedly said swimwear should be modest and worn only at the beach or by a pool.
According to the letter, which was reportedly written by the ship’s captain, G-strings, thongs, monokinis and mankinis were not permitted, including on the beach. It also said topless sunbathing was prohibited at all times. Guests were additionally asked to cover up when entering churches or visiting local sites.
A Carnival spokesperson said the cruise line has shared guidance on appropriate clothing for Lifou visits for many years. The company said its advice includes avoiding swimwear in public areas as a sign of respect for the local community.
Carnival’s booking website lists New Caledonia sailings scheduled for February and March 2027.
