Carnival Promotes Cesare Costigliolo to Captain
The longtime Carnival officer began his career with the cruise line as a deck cadet aboard Carnival Valor in 2008.

Carnival Cruise Line has promoted Cesare Costigliolo to captain, marking a major career step nearly two decades after he joined the company. Carnival celebrated the promotion with a ceremony at its Fleet Operations Center in Miami, where Costigliolo formally entered the new role.
Costigliolo began working for Carnival in 2008 as a deck cadet aboard Carnival Valor. He later served aboard Carnival Celebration during the ship’s inaugural season, according to the cruise line.
More recently, Costigliolo was staff captain aboard Carnival Freedom. In that second-in-command position, he supported the ship’s captain in overseeing the vessel’s safe operation. His promotion completes a progression from Carnival’s entry-level deck officer training role to command as captain.
