Carnival Panorama Guest Reported Overboard During Mexico-to-California Sailing
Carnival Cruise Line said authorities were notified after the ship’s team reviewed surveillance footage and conducted an onboard search.

A male guest aboard Carnival Panorama went overboard while the ship was sailing from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to Long Beach, California, according to Carnival Cruise Line. The company described the incident as the guest having jumped from the vessel.
Carnival said the ship’s team began search and investigation procedures after receiving notice that a guest was missing. Those measures included reviewing CCTV footage and alerting the U.S. and Mexican Coast Guards.
One passenger said the captain instructed guests to return to their staterooms while crew members searched the decks and carried out room-to-room accountability checks by scanning passengers’ Sail & Sign cards.
The guest’s sister, Wendy Dowden, said she believed something had happened mentally to her brother, Thomas Gigler, and that he was not in his right mind at the time.
Carnival said it was providing support to relatives who had been traveling with the guest.
