Carnival opens bookings for Tropicale’s 2028 Galveston debut
The fifth and final Excel-class ship is scheduled to begin year-round service from Texas on April 15, 2028.

Carnival Cruise Line has opened bookings for Carnival Tropicale, which is scheduled to enter service from Galveston on April 15, 2028. The vessel is under construction at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, and Carnival describes it as the fifth and final ship in its Excel class.
The planned Galveston program features four-, five-, six- and eight-day voyages to the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Mexico. Scheduled destinations include Carnival’s Celebration Key, RelaxAway at Half Moon Cay, Isla Tropicale and Puerta Maya, along with Progreso and Nassau.
Carnival plans to deploy the ship from Texas throughout the year and place a Star of Texas on its bow. Among its proposed family attractions is Sunsation Point, a multi-deck recreation area incorporating Carnival WaterWorks Ultra.
According to the company’s plans, the waterpark will offer six slides, including SunSoaker, Turning Tides and Racing Currents, as well as splash areas intended for younger guests. Additional recreation facilities are set to include a redesigned, Route 66-inspired Fairway 66 Mini Golf course and the Treehouse Adventure Trail, with netted pathways and obstacles.
