Carnival Legend Eclipse Sailing to Adjust Platinum Perks
The 11-night voyage departs Dover on August 9, with several usual priority services expected to be unavailable because of the large number of top-tier guests.
Carnival Cruise Line has reportedly notified Platinum guests booked on Carnival Legend’s upcoming eclipse cruise that several of their customary priority benefits will not be offered. The 11-night sailing, Carnival’s first voyage dedicated to a total solar eclipse, is scheduled to leave Dover, England, on August 9.
The affected benefits include priority embarkation and debarkation, including at ports of call, as well as early stateroom access, early luggage drop-off and priority luggage delivery. Carnival also advised that it might be unable to offer a dedicated Guest Services line or priority telephone assistance during the voyage.
In its email, Carnival said the operational adjustments were consistent with measures used on other sailings carrying unusually large numbers of Platinum members.
The itinerary includes destinations in France, Guernsey, Spain, Portugal and Belgium. After the eclipse, Carnival Legend is scheduled to call at Vigo, Lisbon, Leixões, Le Verdon and Zeebrugge before returning to Dover on August 20.
The sailing comes shortly before a broader loyalty program change. Carnival’s VIFP Rewards program is due to be replaced by Carnival Rewards on September 1, with passenger spending becoming one factor in determining status.
