Carnival Firenze Passenger Taken Ashore During Medical Emergency
Long Beach emergency crews transferred the critically ill guest to a local hospital, while the ship adjusted its itinerary.
Long Beach Fire said Marine Safety crews responded at about 7 a.m. to assist Carnival Firenze’s crew with a critically ill passenger near the Long Beach Sea Buoy.
Lifeguards and firefighters coordinated the passenger’s transfer from the cruise ship, brought the person ashore and arranged transportation to a local hospital, according to authorities. Officials did not identify the passenger or release details about the illness or the person’s current condition.
A Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson said the ship’s medical team treated a guest who experienced a medical emergency on August 25 while Carnival Firenze was sailing toward Catalina Island, California. The guest was then transferred to first responders for transport to an onshore hospital.
Carnival said the response required an itinerary adjustment and that guests were notified. The cruise line rescheduled the ship’s visits to Catalina Island and Ensenada for the following two days.
