Carnival Cruise Line Names First Female Staff Captain
Daniela Gargiulo has become the line’s first woman to serve as staff captain, taking the second-in-command role aboard Carnival Adventure.

Carnival Cruise Line has appointed Daniela Gargiulo as staff captain of Carnival Adventure, marking the first time a woman has held the position within the cruise line. The ship is currently sailing from Sydney, Australia.
The appointment was recognized during a ceremony as Carnival Adventure returned from a South Pacific cruise. Gargiulo joined the vessel last year, having begun her Carnival Cruise Line career as a deck cadet in 2013.
Captain Francesco Bencivenga said Gargiulo serves as his second-in-command and is responsible for marine operations, safety and crew leadership, among other duties. He described the appointment as an important step for greater gender diversity in the maritime industry and for future female leaders.
Carnival Adventure operates a range of shorter and longer itineraries from Sydney to destinations in Australia and the South Pacific.
