Carnival Conquest Diverts to Assist Mariner in Caribbean
The cruise ship safely took aboard the sole occupant of a sailing vessel while traveling toward Grenada, Carnival Cruise Line said.
Carnival Conquest changed course in the Caribbean on Aug. 26 to help a mariner in distress, according to Carnival Cruise Line. The ship was sailing toward Grenada when it received a distress relay from rescue authorities.
Carnival said the cruise ship diverted to the sailing vessel’s location and safely brought its sole occupant aboard. The rescued individual remained under the care of the ship’s team as Carnival Conquest continued toward St. George’s, Grenada, on its scheduled route. The cruise line did not disclose the person’s identity.
The assistance follows two other cruise ship rescues in recent months. MSC Cruises’ MSC Musica aided a vessel in distress in late July while traveling to Ibiza. In late May, Silversea Cruises’ Silver Whisper helped rescue a man from a disabled sailing vessel nearly 500 miles off the Oregon coast.
