Carnival Carry-On Soda Policy Offers Alternative to Onboard Purchases
A Carnival Luminosa passenger reported paying $11.56 for a 12-pack of Diet Coke before sailing, compared with the ship’s listed per-can price.
Carnival’s beverage policy permits each passenger to carry aboard as many as 12 sealed and unopened cans or cartons of non-alcoholic drinks on embarkation day. Each container must hold no more than 12 ounces and must be packed in the guest’s carry-on luggage.
The policy covers beverages such as soda, sparkling water, juice and milk. According to the report, Carnival does not allow passengers to bring water, soda or other non-alcoholic beverages aboard in bottles.
The traveler said a 12-pack of Diet Coke purchased before boarding Carnival Luminosa cost $11.56 with tax, putting the price at less than $1 per can. The report listed Carnival’s onboard soda price at $3.50 per can, and the traveler estimated that bringing the drinks saved more than $2 each.
Keeping the soda in the cabin meant returning there to retrieve a drink, which the traveler described as a minor inconvenience. Carnival also offers its Bottomless Bubbles package for unlimited soft drinks, though the report noted that the package may not suit every passenger.
