Carnival advises some Platinum guests of reduced priority benefits
High numbers of upper-tier passengers affected loyalty perks on select Labor Day weekend sailings.

Carnival Cruise Line notified some Platinum members booked on Labor Day weekend voyages aboard Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Vista that it could not provide all benefits normally associated with their loyalty status. The company attributed the changes to the large number of upper-tier guests scheduled to sail.
According to Carnival’s notices, affected benefits included priority embarkation and debarkation, early access to staterooms and priority luggage delivery. Priority lines and telephone assistance through Guest Services also might not be available. Carnival said limiting early access would give housekeeping teams time to prepare cabins by 1:30 p.m.
The notices came as Carnival transitioned its loyalty system. Carnival Rewards replaced the VIFP Club on September 1, 2026, introducing Status Qualifying Stars based on passenger spending and fixed earning periods that generally require members to requalify for their tier. Guests who achieved Diamond status under VIFP by August 31, 2026, retain it for life, while existing Platinum members keep their status through December 31, 2028. Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said the points-based structure was designed to address difficulties in consistently delivering benefits as the number of Diamond and Platinum members grew, while giving guests more flexibility in choosing rewards.
