Body recovered during search after Ambition guest reported missing
A search-and-rescue operation was launched after a man was reported overboard east of Arbroath on Friday morning.
HM Coastguard said a man was reported overboard from a vessel east of Arbroath, Angus, on Friday morning.
Ambassador Cruise Line said Ambition was sailing from Lerwick to Dundee when a guest was found to be missing. Guests were asked to remain aboard while a search was conducted throughout the ship.
Aircraft, lifeboat crews, coastguard rescue teams and nearby vessels took part in the response. The operation included coastguard aircraft, RNLI crews from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry, and coastguard rescue teams from Dundee, Arbroath and St Andrews. A commercial search-and-rescue helicopter also assisted.
Police Scotland said during the operation that the man remained missing and his next of kin had been informed. Coastguard and RNLI crews, assisted by Police Scotland, later recovered a body from the water that day.
Ambition docked in Dundee, and guests were allowed to disembark after the ship search was completed. Ambassador Cruise Line said the incident caused a slight delay to the vessel’s turnaround operation in Dundee.
