Body recovered after Ambition guest reported overboard off Scotland
Aircraft and nearby vessels joined a search after the cruise ship reported a missing guest while sailing from Lerwick to Dundee.
HM Coastguard said a man was reported overboard from Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition at about 8.35am on Friday. The ship was approximately 36 nautical miles east of Arbroath, Angus, at the time.
The Coastguard deployed one of its helicopters and an aeroplane to the search. A commercial search-and-rescue helicopter and vessels in the surrounding area also took part.
Police Scotland said a body was recovered, but formal identification had not yet been completed. The family of the man reported missing had been informed, according to police.
Ambassador Cruise Line said Ambition was travelling from Lerwick to Dundee when a guest could not be located. The vessel later docked in Dundee, where passengers were permitted to leave after a search was conducted throughout the ship.
The cruise line said the incident caused a slight delay to the ship’s turnaround in Dundee. Passengers booked to board Ambition were advised to travel to the port according to their scheduled embarkation times.
