Asian Games organiser addresses Costa Serena boarding delays
More than 4,000 participants are staying aboard the cruise ship at Nagoya’s port after organisers chose not to build an athletes’ village.

Asian Games participants are being housed in temporary cabins, hotels and aboard Costa Serena because organisers opted against establishing an athletes’ village as a cost-saving measure. More than 4,000 people are staying on the cruise ship at Nagoya’s port.
Local organising committee AINAGOC said some delegations reported confusion when boarding the vessel on September 16. The committee attributed the delays and confusion mainly to the time required to resolve incomplete documentation submitted by some delegations.
AINAGOC said it was working with Costa Cruises and an outsourced operator to address the situation appropriately.
Several teams reported shortages of rooms, while others raised concerns about the quality of some accommodation. Some athletes arriving during the previous week were also reportedly left waiting for hours.
