Aroya Manara docks for Mediterranean Games accommodation role

The vessel will house athletes, officials and support personnel at an Italian Navy base under organizers’ floating accommodation model.

Aroya Manara docked at an Italian Navy base on Sunday, becoming the first of two cruise ships intended to provide accommodation during the Mediterranean Games. Organizers selected floating accommodation instead of constructing a conventional athletes’ village.

The ship will be the principal residence for delegations representing 26 countries across three continents. It will remain berthed within the naval base during the Games, placing its cabins and onboard facilities at the center of daily accommodation arrangements for athletes, officials and support personnel.

Originally built as World Dream before joining Aroya Cruises, Aroya Manara has more than 1,600 cabins and capacity for over 3,300 guests. Tallink’s Romantika was scheduled to join the vessel the following day.

The Mediterranean Games are scheduled to open at Taranto’s renovated Iacovone Stadium.
